History

About 1500 years ago, a Brahmin family lived in a village in the Jaisalmer area of Rajasthan. The name of that Brahmin was Vidya Gore. He had a daughter named Lakhu and a son named Laxman. The whole atmosphere of the house was religious. Her daughter Lakhu used to get up early in the morning with her father and go to Shivpuja and Aarti for daily activities. Lakhu herself seemed divine in the form of a real goddess. Her rule was that they should eat anything after Shiva Puja. Lakhu used to worship with cow’s milk. Years have passed and Lakhu became 15-year-old. It’s a matter of one day. Lakhu became restless as the cow did not return after grazing till morning. She was concerned about the cow, she shouted to his younger brother Laxman, “brother if cow has not arrived, and there is a delay in the morning Shiva Puja, find it and bring it.” After searching for the cow all morning, he found the cow dead in one place. One hunter thought it was a daily hunt. Lakshman saw it and understood. Came home and described the whole situation to Lakhu. Lakhu started crying with deep tears. She did not eat food without worshiping it, so now she has broken her vow. Without even thinking for a moment, she decided to sati behind the cow.

Lakhu brought the family and the neighborhood together and said in her resolve, I will be sati behind the cow. You prepare a wooden cheetah in the cemetery and take me there. Everyone explained a lot but Lakhu stood strong to her decision. In the end, the people rushed to the cemetery carrying Lakhu. Meanwhile, the villagers on the way also flocked to see her. At the same time Bhati Rajput came out on the way. He saw all this. He knew everything, but he did not believe it. That is why he said to Lakhu, “If you give me a proof or a recipe, then I will believe that you are a goddess and a sati-woman.” So Lakhu replied, “After arranging the wood, put me on it and you don’t have to light a fire, the fire will spread by itself from my right toe.” So, you are the son of Bhati Rajput, I am Lakhu Sati. Secondly, if you go home and find a coconut, a flower ball, and a ghee lamp inside the plank that has fallen in the room of your house, then consider that this Lakhu is a sati-woman. Bhati Rajput went to his house in a daze and as he said, all the rumors given by Lakhu came true. He came back running and bowed to Lakhu and apologized for the suspicion he had made and apologized and applauded “Jai Maa Lakhu, Jai Maa Lakhu.”

Lakhu said, “Hey Bhati Rajput, your family goddess is Lakshmi. And at the same time from now on you should also light a lamp of Lakhu. You must worship me too.” Bhati said, “I will worship you, but what should we do?” He also says.” So, Maa Lakhu replied, “I am the daughter of a Brahmin. I want a scattering of wheat (straight), five and a half shares. If you come to the eighth of Navratra, then do it with faith. If you will have a son as your first child, then remember me.”

Thus, at the end of the conversation, Lakhu sits on a cheetah. As she told, fire burns itself from the toes of the right foot and they are satiated by the divine fire. Everyone who went with a radiant face and religious devotion in their home talking about Lakhu.

Time flies and there is a drought in the Jaisalmer diocese. Humans, animals, birds, cows become restless. Cows seem to be starving and thirsty. People migrate from there to save their livestock, leaving their villages. Bhati Rajput ‘Ghanghol’ himself was a Maldhari and from there he enters Gurjar Pradesh i.e. Gujarat from the north. They first enter the Patan panth and then proceed to Sabarkantha. In order to save their livestock, Bhati Rajput and all the others came together and remembered Maa Lakhu and prayed, “Hey Maa Lakhu, give life to our livestock, give water to quench their thirst.” Seeing the heartfelt devotion of the cowherds, Maa Lakhu taunted from the mountain, “I am drinking water from the middle of the mountain, I am streaming it.” She produced water by Her divine power. In an instant, a waterfall began to flow. The cows and cattle quenched their thirst. The cowherds began to cheer. The flow was known as ‘Lakhiyadhara’ because of Maa Lakhu’s blessings and this Dhara. There Bhati Rajputs and cowherds started worshiping Mataji by setting up a temple of Mataji with four bricks and showing devotion. From there the herdsmen started moving to other places. Some people came to Borsan, a village near Patan. Two brothers, Buro and Rambho, lived there. Buro and his grandmother were seekers. The village was named ‘Borsan’ after Bura, who was always absorbed in his devotion. His brother Rambha had seven sons. He built three wells and two lakes for the welfare of the people. He raised the rye plant next to the house with milk. Rambho Bha Vadwali was living in wadvali. Shikotarma told Rambhabha in a dream that if you have seven sons, you should join my establishment with Lakhu. As time went on, the ball fell right. Seven sons came to Rambhabha’s house. His son’s names were Huro – Surasan, Ghoomo – Ghumasan, Dudho – Dudhkha, Budho – Bareja, Kano – Moro and Megho Tana Bukholi (Banaskantha) and a brother came to live in Patan. At Mana’s request, some went in the direction of rising in Sabarkantha. Due to the curse of Saduthala Aghoribava from Sunsar, he left the village and started living with Ambaliyapara, Dhansura, Raner, Kanoda along with Surpura ‘Ghanghol’ family.

The whole ‘Ghanghol’ community of Gujarat is a symbol of social unity. Lakhiadhara in Dhamnia village of Dhansura taluka of Sabarkantha is the original station of Kuladevi Maa Lakhanechi.

This place is the original station of Lakhnechi sitting under the eleven bricks under the Tamarind, Long pepper, and Banyan trees. Millions of devotees of Lakhanechi feel blessed by darshan from time to time.

Today Mata Lakhanechi’s Dham in Dhammania village has facilities like Dharamshala, Restaurant, and Gaushala.

Donations are pouring in from all over Gujarat to make the Lakhnechi Dham more majestic and to provide more facilities in the Rabari community.

Hundreds of salutations at the feet of Lakhanechi in the end. Mother’s prayer keeps the Lakhanechi family very happy and protects them from body-mind-money.

“Jai Ma Lakhnechi, Jai Ma Lakhu”
